Safety Information
We want you to be safe when using TripShare. We will not ever release your personal details to other TripShare members. It is
your responsibility to release your information (your email, email handle, phone number, real name, real address) to the other TripShare members only when you feel ready to do so.
The safety of the trip itself is your responsibility. Don't travel unless you feel safe and happy about the trip, the driver or passenger, and the vehicle. Ask a lot of questions (through email or by phone) and find out enough about the other TripShare member to feel safe. Just because you've contacted a driver or passenger, it does not mean you're obligated to TripShare with them. If you have any doubts, at any time, do not go. Simply call or email to cancel your plans.
Our safety advice:
Start your conversation with other TripShare members through TripShare's messaging service.
Talk to other TripShare members on the phone to get to know them a bit before you agree to travel together.
Avoid exchanging home addresses until you know and trust the other person.
If possible, meet with your driver/passenger before the trip date.
Always arrange to meet in a public place.
Let someone else (a trusted friend, a relative) know your travel plans.
Consider meeting somewhere close to public transport, so if you change your mind about TripSharing, you have alternative transport.
Take your mobile phone. (Make sure it's charged and has credit!)
Ask lots of questions before you travel - don't be shy - if you want to know about their car insurance, or if they have points on their license, just ask.
What sort of things should I ask when I contact a TripSharer?
We suggest you ask as many questions as it takes for you to feel safe!
The following are a good place to start:
What do we do if one of us changes our mind, or our situation changes?
Do you have a full driving license?
Is the car insured?
Do you have AA cover?
Where exactly will you pick me up from? Where will you drop me off?
What time will you be there? If you are running late, how will you contact me?
How much do you want me to contribute to fuel costs?
What time will you be there?
Are there other people traveling with us?
Remember, you are not obligated to share the trip. If you don't like the answers you get, or you feel uncomfortable for ANY reason,
call it off and don't go. You are not obligated to go on any trip or take on any passenger if you don't want to, or if your plans change. Simply call or email to cancel your plans with the other TripShare member.
